Common Assessment Terms

Assessment 
The process of evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of academic support units and administrative units. 

Goals 
Broad statements about what a department or unit plans to accomplish. 

Method 
The steps or process that will be taken to accomplish the goal.  

Targets 
The desired level of achievement. Thresholds or benchmarks that indicate whether the goal was successful.  

Measure Achievement 
How units determine if they achieved their goals.  

Results 
The outcomes of the planned methods. Results are compared with targets to determine whether or not a goal was achieved. 

Analysis 
Evaluating the effectiveness of the steps taken and identifying improvements for next year’s goals.
