A select group of Economics and Business students received real-world financial modeling training in a two-day Wall Street Prep bootcamp.
On February 24 and 25, nearly 30 students participated in a rigorous two-day training taught by Wall Street Prep designed to teach them hard skills needed for careers in finance. Participants included TigerFund members and students taking Investment Banking (BUSN 242).
Prior to the training, participants completed modules on topics such as Excel and accounting so that they came to the two-day event fully prepared to dive in to the meat of the material. The February bootcamp then further trained students on skills needed to succeed in the financial industry, including three-statement modeling and discounted cash flow modeling.
“The Wall Street Prep training was exceptionally well put together and helped everyone who participated gain a deeper knowledge of financial modeling fundamentals,” says Elliot Williams ’25. “Our instructor, Mr. Davis, provided helpful industry insights and advice that we can take to our future internships and jobs.”
At Hampden-Sydney, we’re given theoretical frameworks in our courses and taught how to think in a broader sense. By supplementing that foundation with a training like this, Hampden-Sydney is helping us to be a lot more competitive in finance, which is arguably the most competitive field to get into coming out of college.

“A lot of schools offer trainings like this,” Waylon Gibson ’25 adds, “but that might be all they offer. At Hampden-Sydney, we’re given theoretical frameworks in our courses and taught how to think in a broader sense. By supplementing that foundation with a training like this, Hampden-Sydney is helping us to be a lot more competitive in finance, which is arguably the most competitive field to get into coming out of college.”
In addition to the hands-on training, participants received lifetime access to the Wall Street Prep platform, which has thousands of hours of tutorials, guides, white papers, and interview and resume preparation resources.
Hampden-Sydney’s co-curricular finance offerings have bloomed in recent years thanks to the dedication of economics and business faculty members and alumni in the finance industry. This training was made possible by John Neuner ’97, H-SC Trustee and CEO of Harris Williams, and was free to all participants.
