Hampden-Sydney College has been awarded a grant from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to create a new two-year internship opportunity for a Coordinator of Athletic Diversity & Inclusion. Reporting to the athletic director and dean of inclusive excellence, this position will work closely with both departments to support educational outreach and programming efforts designed to foster an inclusive, welcoming campus environment.

Director of Athletics Chad Eisele, Dean of Inclusive Excellence John Hollemon, and Grant Administrator Sachiyo Dinmore led the effort to secure the grant funding through the NCAA’s Division III Ethnic Minority and Women’s Internship Grant Program, which is focused on “enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in entry-level, intercollegiate athletics administrative positions,” according to the NCAA.

In addition to receiving professional development support and supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives, the individual selected for the position will gain experience in a wide variety of operational elements within the College’s athletic department, from strategic planning and NCAA compliance to student-athlete welfare issues and staff oversight.
