On March 25 and 26, Hampden-Sydney College students, faculty, and staff hosted nearly 1,100 second grade students from 12 nearby elementary schools for its annual Literacy Days event.

Along with picking out a book and getting it signed by Hampden-Sydney athletes, the children enjoyed a variety of games and activities that highlighted the joy of reading and the value of literacy. The event also served as a wonderful opportunity to introduce young students to the world of higher education and emphasize the importance of learning.

We have the best group of faculty, staff, students, and community volunteers. Without them, this event would not be possible. The wonder, joy, and enthusiasm the schoolchildren exhibit is contagious—we’re already looking forward to hosting this event again next year!
