Following a search that yielded a pool of highly experienced advancement professionals from colleges and universities across the country, Hampden-Sydney is pleased to announce the appointment of James Hugh Haskins ’01 as Vice President for College Advancement, effective immediately.
Hugh brings nearly 20 years of advancement experience and fundraising talent to this role, including expertise gained from working on a $1 billion capital campaign during his tenure at Clemson University—experience that will prove invaluable as Hampden-Sydney moves into the public phase of its own campaign next month.
In his most recent post as Assistant Vice President for Development at Hampden-Sydney, Hugh has recruited and led a talented team of fundraising professionals who have consistently surpassed engagement and relationship goals as the College has worked to better connect with its alumni. Major gifts secured by our Advancement team under Hugh’s leadership have contributed to the unprecedented fundraising success the College has had over each of the last five years.
Throughout his career, Hugh has demonstrated exceptional skills in building relationships, developing high-performing teams, and exceeding fundraising goals. His ability to collaborate with College leaders ensures that our advancement strategies align with and support Hampden-Sydney’s priorities.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected as the next Vice President for College Advancement. I am grateful to President Stimpert and the search committee members for granting me this opportunity,” says Hugh. “Returning to campus in 2019, I knew President Stimpert had a distinct vision and commitment to Hampden-Sydney, which aligned well with our College's founding mission of forming good men and good citizens. Our success over the last five years is a direct reflection of the clear direction set by the President and the Board of Trustees, and the efforts of our talented Advancement team, which have helped strengthen Hampden-Sydney on all fronts. I am excited to engage with more of our dedicated alumni. Their support, experience, and contributions are vital in shaping our students' future and our College's continued success."
