As the weather warms up and the semester winds down, Hampden-Sydney is busy celebrating students and faculty. At the April 22 final convocation ceremony held on the lawn of Venable Hall, standout students received awards for their scholastic and leadership achievements over the past academic year.
One award recognizing a member of the faculty for research excellence was also awarded at Final Convocation. This year’s John Peter Mettauer Award recipient is Elliott Associate Professor of Mathematics & Computer Science Dr. Brian Lins, who has been at the College since 2008. Dr. Lins research interests include matrix analysis and operator theory, particularly numerical ranges and nonexpansive maps.
